Chanticleer Holdings was formed in 2005 as a business development company and converted to an operating holding company in 2008.
In 2011, Chanticleer and a group of noteworthy private equity investors, which included H.I.G. Capital, KarpReilly, LLC and Kelly Hall, president of Texas Wings Inc., the largest Hooters franchisee in the United States, acquired Hooters of America (HOA), a privately held company. Today, HOA is an operator and the franchisor of over 412 Hooters® restaurants in 28 countries. In addition to Chanticleer maintaining its ownership stake in HOA, its CEO, Mike Pruitt, is also a member of HOA's Board of Directors.
Today, Chanticleer Holdings is focused on expanding its brands internationally and domestically.
Chanticleer currently owns in whole or part of the exclusive franchise rights to develop and operate Hooters restaurants in South Africa, Australia, Europe, and Oregon and Washington in the U.S., while evaluating several additional international opportunities. The Company currently owns and operates in whole or part of 15 Hooters restaurants in all of its territories.
Chanticleer owns and operates American Burger Co with 5 locations; 1 location in Smithtown, NY; 2 locations in Charlotte, NC; and 1 location in Greenville, SC and The Burger Company restaurant located in Charlotte.
The Company also owns a majority interest in Just Fresh Restaurants, a fresh food-focused casual dining establishment with 7 restaurant locations in Charlotte, NC.
Chanticleer recently acquired BGR: The Burger Joint (BGR), a better burger concept well-known in the Maryland/Washington, D.C./Virginia area. BGR operates twenty-three stores domestically and internationally, with franchise opportunities in both markets. The Company also acquired BT's Burger Joint a better burger concept in North Carolina with four locations, three in Charlotte and one in Asheville and Little Big Burger in Oregon with eight locations.
