Baseball Hosts "Step Up to the Plate" Kickoff Dinner Jan. 31 January 10, 2008
The Coastal Carolina University baseball team will be hosting its first annual “Step Up to the Plate” season kickoff dinner Thursday, Jan. 31 from 6-8 p.m., at the Chesapeake House in Myrtle Beach. Tickets are $100 and all proceeds will benefit the Mike Pruitt Foundation and the Grand Strand Miracle League.
Coastal baseball fans will be able to meet the 2008 team and participate in a silent auction. Coastal has been involved with the Grand Strand Miracle League for the past three seasons, serving as “Buddies” for the kids and helping out during the games with hitting, pitching, fielding and coaching. The Miracle League is currently serving 80 children from Horry and Georgetown Counties and has six teams and plays two eight-week seasons per year.
The Mike Pruitt Foundation was established this summer and provides scholarships for Coastal Carolina Youth Baseball Camps to underprivileged kids ages 8-12. The youngsters will be exposed to advance instruction in throwing, fielding, hitting, base running and team defense by the CCU Baseball Camp Staff. The 50 players will be chosen by the area recreation departments based, first and foremost, on financial need and then by other factors such as love for the game and overall future potential.
